Samsung D807 Slim Slider for Cingular

How do you make a cell phone with a large display and lots of capability both easy to use and easy to carry? You build it as a slider. That's what Samsung has done with its model D807 multimedia phone for Cingular Wireless. Closed, it's sleek and compact. Open, you have access to the dial pad for making calls. Samsung describes this phone as one for the "upwardly mobile."

The Samsung D807 is a quad band GSM cell phone capable of operating on GSM -based wireless networks worldwide. It also taps the power of EDGE or Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, a high speed data network that runs concurrently with the mobile voice service. Cingular's EDGE network offers data downloads at up to 144 Kbps.

EDGE gives mobile professionals the ability to send and receive email, and browse mobile web sites using the built-in WAP 2.0 browser in the D807. This phone also supports streaming video at up to 15 frames per second.

The Samsung D807 includes a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera with flash and self-timer. It takes printable photos and will capture short videos up to 20 seconds long when you switch to camcorder mode. Built-in memory is 22 MB. It can be easily expanded using plug-in MicroSD memory cards. Extra memory comes in handy when you want to take a lot of high resolution photos or download podcasts and music to the built-in MP3 player.

The color display on the D807 measures 176 x 220 pixels and is one of the highest resolution screens available in a cell phone at over 262,000 colors displayed. It's a nice match for the Megapixel camera and streaming video capability.

Hands-free operational features include speakerphone, Bluetooth wireless headset support and advanced voice activated dialing, which is speaker-independent and needs no pre-training. You can record up to 5 minutes of voice notes, handy for making notes on-site or quick interviews.

The phonebook capacity of this phone is unique in that it has no preset limit. You can add names and numbers up to the available memory limit. It is set up to hold up to 5 entries per contact. A built-in to-do list, calculator and calendar are personal productivity aids.

Text messaging, multimedia messaging and instant messaging are all supported on the Samsung D807. The phone comes preloaded with AOL, Yahoo!, ICQ and MSN instant messaging clients.

The sharp and professional looking black and chrome finish of the D807 comes on a package only 0.6 inches thick. That's nearly half the thickness of many phones and comparable to the venerable Motorola RAZR design. Battery life is not compromised by this design. Indeed, it's an impressive talk time of up to 300 minutes or 5 hours. Standby time is up to 240 hours or 10 days untethered.
