RAZR Reincarnation

When the original Motorola RAZR smartphone appeared on the market, it caused quite a stir. You might say it was the iPhone of its time. When cell phones were chunky little flip blobs or hefty candy bars, the RAZR boasted the thinest profile at the time. It was an amazing half-inch thick. How could they possibly get all that technology in that also revolutionary aircraft aluminum case?

The incredible slimness of the DROID RAZR by Motorola. Get special pricing now...Now there’s a new RAZR phone with far more advanced technology and it’s even thinner, measuring a scant 0.3 inches or 7.1 mm. Instead of machined aluminum, the case is now laser-cut KEVLAR with Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the screen. There’s even a splash guard coating to shield the electronics from water attacks, just in case you are partial to Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain. Meet the DROID RAZR by Motorola for Verizon Wireless.

What else is new in the RAZR technology upgrade? First of all, network connectivity. This is a 4G LTE Smartphone. That means blazing speed, more like a home or office Internet connection than what you’d expect from the cellular networks. If you wander out of 4G coverage, the RAZR will revert to 3G. You can choose to connect to a WiFi hotspot or be the hotspot. Share your 4G LTE Internet connection with up to 8 other WiFi enabled devices. On 3G, it supports 5 WiFi devices.

There’s a speedy 1.2 GHz dual core processor inside, with 1 GB of RAM. Storage memory is 16 GB on board with support for up to 32 GB on plug-in cards. It runs Google’s Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread operating system with the Motorola Application Platform. Your hardwired interface connections include a micro USB port and a micro HDMI-1080p port that can be run in mirror mode to your HDTV or monitor.

The DROID RAZR screen is a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED advanced display that serves up hyper-vibrant colors and smooth action for movies and TV shows. You can stream from Netflix or download those movies from the Android Market. Another cool feature is MotoCast, a free app that lets you securely access files that are stored on your desktop computer. No need to upload to a third-party cloud. You can stream from where your media already exists.

That high resolution display is matched to an 8 Megapixel rear facing camera that can record 1080p HD video. Don’t worry about being a little shaky as you capture images. The DROID RAZR has image stabilization included to smooth out the scenes. The audio that accompanies the video has selectable modes that include stereo, wind reduction, concert and more. There’s a dual mic system onboard so that you can take calls even in noisy environments and still be heard clearly. A second camera faces front for video conferencing. This one has 1.3 Megapixels, which used to be a good spec for the main camera. Time marches on. You can capture 720p HD video with the front facing imager.

Here’s your chance to get this advanced personal and business phone at a special online price. Don’t plunk down too much green at a carrier store or big-box retailer until you check out the Special Deal on DROID RAZR by Motorola for Verizon Wireless. Clearly, it’s time to upgrade to a much sharper razor phone.

Prepaid Cell Phones Are Cheap

Do you feel yourself getting faint when it comes time to sign-up for a 2 year cell phone contract. Sure, they’ll give you a free phone or offer a big discount on the latest technology smartphone. But then comes the heartburn of facing up to a service plan that can run into thousands of dollars before you can escape. You don’t want that. Maybe you’re even getting by without a cellphone just to dodge that financial commitment. Well, here’s another option -- pay only for what you need when you need it.

Pay as you go cellular service for 10 cents a minute. Now you can have a cell phone and know exactly how much you’ll pay, without ever getting one of those killer overage bills. With Net10, it’s a real simple calculation. You pay 10 cents a minute for local, long distance, or roaming. It’s not a fixed amount of minutes every month that you use or lose. You talk 10 minutes, you pay a buck. That’s it. You can yap to your heart’s content or hold it down to just the necessary calls. You’ve got complete control of your cell phone bill with Net10.

You can’t get dinged with overage fees on the Net10 plan, because they don’t allow it. With Net10, you buy your minutes up-front. Then you use them down until you need more. Sure, you can run out of minutes during a busy month. But the solution is easy. Just buy some more. You can buy them online, at all sorts of retail stores, and by calling a special toll free number. You’ll always know where you stand, because the special Net10 cell phones display your exact airtime balance and remind you when you need to add minutes.

Now isn’t that better than forking over $30, $60, or even $100 a month just to make sure you have enough minutes? Most months you’re probably paying for service that you don’t use. That’s the way traditional cellular plans are structured. With pay-as-you-go cellular service, the minutes you don’t use automatically carry over to the next month. All you need to do is to keep the service active. That means you do have to add minutes from time to time, but you get the use of all those minutes. You have the option to buy these airtime minutes in packages that are good for anywhere from 30 days to 2 years of service. If you want, you can set up a monthly plan to automatically add time to your account and keep it active. But you won’t ever have to sign a contract or make a commitment for how long you are going to keep using your phone.

That’s another advantage of Net10 service. If you will only be in the U.S. for a limited time, going to school or for a job, you can buy airtime while you are here and just not renew when you go back to your home country. Your service will expire without any additional charges. You’ll never get a bill for ongoing service or a disconnection fee. Remember, it’s pay as you go.

Sounds good for making phone calls, but what about texting? Text messages are 5 cents each. Your voice calls are 10 cents a minute. Simple, right?

OK, but what about these special phones? They aren’t old lame models, are they? No way. Net 10 has a variety of up to date cell phones to meet your needs. They range form the Motorola W375G flip phone with digital camera to the Samsung T401G with a slide out QWERTY keyboard for texting, to all sorts of models by Motorola, LG, Nokia, Kyhocera, and samsung that includes such handy features as speakerphones, downloadable ringtones and graphics, and Bluetooth wireless capability.

No, you won’t find any 3G wireless smartphones in this collection. Net10 is basic cellular service for the 90% of people who simply want to talk and text without paying a fortune or getting stuck in an unbreakable contract. There are no credit checks on this service, so you won’t be humiliated by some bureaucrat denying you service because they don’t like your credit score. You don’t need that abuse, so why put up with it? Get the cellular service YOU control by ordering Net10 wireless service and low cost cell phones.

Is The End Of Cellular Phone Near?

We love our cell phones. We can’t live without them. Yet, a recent report throws into doubt the future of cellular phone service as we know it today. What can possibly threaten the most popular telecommunications service in the world and what will we do instead?

The cellular tower will still be here long after cellular telephone service is gone. The report is a bit of news that was announced about the same time as the release of the new Apple iPad. Almost lost in the hoopla was a confirmation by Apple that they are now allowing VoIP applications over 3G cellular on the iPhone. AT&T chimed in that they had “tweaked” their network to allow VoIP over 3G.

What’s so earth-shattering about that? Until now, VoIP has been application non-grata on cellular networks. There are two good reasons for that. The technical reason is that VoIP generates a steady stream of packets while a call is in progress. If you have too many conversations going simultaneously, they’ll hog all the bandwidth and the network will become congested to the detriment of everyone. The business reason is that any call made using VoIP on the broadband data link is one less call using cellular minutes.

This showdown has been brewing for some time. It’s rooted in the historical design and pricing for cell phone service. In the beginning... a couple of decades ago... cellular phone systems were designed to offer mobile telephone service. The first generation were analog. The next generation went digital. But it was all based on voice channels transporting full duplex phone conversations. The model was the standard telephone handset minus the wire.

The addition of a separate data service, especially a broadband data service, is a more recent addition. Each carrier has only certain licensed frequencies that it can use at each tower site. They divvy up that bandwidth between voice and data. There need to be enough channels so that anyone who wants to make a phone call can do so. But there also needs to be enough broadband capacity so that customers will buy the add-on data service for their smartphones.

Now here’s the rub. Voice plans are sold as a package of so many minutes per month. Data plans are sold as an unlimited broadband usage, although in practice there actually is a limit of 5GB or so to thwart those who try to use the cellular network to replace a DSL or Cable broadband connection. There’s just not enough bandwidth available if everyone did THAT. But, in theory, you could use Skype or another VoIP service on your data plan for telephony and skip the voice package completely. This is the doomsday scenario that has triggered the wrath of cellular carriers whenever they suspect a VoIP incursion into their networks.

There are some recent developments that may soon render this battle of the protocols moot. The first change was the availability of all-you-can-eat voice and data plans. If no one is tracking minutes so they can charge for overages, then who cares if the call goes down the voice or data pipe? It all pays the same.

Just as significant is the reality that the data channel is the one with the screaming demand for more and more bandwidth. Video is becoming the wireless killer-app and video consumes bandwidth by the Mbps, versus a few dozen Kbps to support a phone call. Every carrier is in a mad scramble to upgrade its backhaul capability and tower site facilities to add more and more 3G bandwidth. They’ll likely not even finish before the next generation of higher bandwidth called 4G is deployed. That’s coming sooner than you think. The FCC just told wireless microphone users to get off the off the old 700 MHz TV channels that were sold to wireless carriers so they can be put to their planned uses.

If data bandwidth demands are swamping voice channel demands, it’s only logical to rethink the whole cellular service market. In the future, we’ll all be carrying small computers that also make voice calls or, more likely, video chat calls. Telephones that also do a little Internet browsing will be relegated to the recyclers. How about that iPad? It even looks like a big iPhone. All you need is a Bluetooth headset and an approved VoIP app and you’ve got yourself a tablet telephone.

Data dominance is going to render the idea of talk minutes a bit quaint. You’ll either pay by the minute for everything with a pay-as-you-go plan, or pay a flat fee for however you want to use the cellular network. The cellular carriers will become wireless broadband network providers for roaming, mobile and some fixed location applications. Cellular may be entering its twilight years, but wireless is just getting started.

DROID is the Woid

Motorola and Verizon have put their heads together to take on the juggernaut that is the Apple iPhone. The result is the much heralded DROID that promises smarter than smart operation thanks to it’s Google Android 2.0 operating system. But let’s have a look and see what you get when you pack a DROID.

Motorola DROID for Verizon Wireless, shown closed. One big difference between the iPhone and every other smart phone, save the BlackBerry Storm, is a physical keyboard. If you’ve spent years developing texting thumbs, then moving to a virtual on-screen keyboard is understandably uncomfortable. Some people gotta have their little pushbuttons. Others just prefer a physical QWERTY keyboard. The DROID doesn’t disappoint. Slide out the hidden keyboard and text so fast you cause sonic booms.

Those who believe that the Microsoft Windows operating system rules the universe and always will, may not have noticed that there are other players looking to unseat the king of Redmond. Apple is quietly selling premium price and quality iMacs in a recessionary economy. The iPhone is going strong and now making a move into other countries, like China. Meanwhile, Google is stretching its tentacles far beyond search. The Android operating system has only crept into the mobile marketplace, but it’s growing. The new DROID will be a big boost to that initiative. Especially since it’s coupled to Verizon Wireless with their excellent nationwide coverage.

With the DROID comes a tight integration between phone and Google’s online empire. That includes thousands of apps downloadable from the Android Market. Apple has quite a head start in the apps marketplace, but DROID has the potential to make downloadable apps a key advantage of this phone. There’s an onboard eCompass along with the expected GPS to enable Google Maps, geo-location web search, geo-tagging and other location based applications.

You can expect a desktop-like experience surfing the Web from your DROID. That’s thanks to the HTML Web browser and Verizon’s 3G data connection called EVDO Rev A. For even faster performance, you can connect to public, personal or corporate WiFi hotspots running 802.11b or g. That’s pretty much all of them now.

What’s a smartphone today without advanced multimedia support? The DROID sports a 5.0 Megapixel digital camera with geo-tagging, flash auto-stabilization, zoom and editing tools. Do you really need to buy a separate digital camera anymore? For most purposes, I’ll bet not. This high resolution camera takes pix good enough to print, as well as share with friends via multimedia messaging or post to photo sites. The 3.7” light responsive color display that doubles as a touch sensitive control screen offers a great platform for viewing video. It has a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels so your images and videos will have a sharp appearance.

Cricket Offers Advantages For Urban Dwellers

Do you like to talk and talk and talk on your cell phone? Or, do you massively text during your waking hours? Do you live in a metropolitan area? How about Internet? Do you spend a lot of time on the Internet away from your home or office? Ah, you might enjoy the cellular service deals that Cricket Wireless has to offer.

Unlimited Talk & Text Plans Starting at $35/monthCricket service is quite different from what you’ve come to expect in a cell phone carrier. First of all there are no contracts to sign. Second, most everything you do is on an unlimited basis. There is one notable exception that we’ll get to in a minute. The service bundles start at an advertised $30 and go up to $60 a month. They’re all for unlimited service. What differentiates them is what kind of services you get.

The cheapest service, $30 a month, gives you talk and Caller ID. This is for people who just can’t bear to have a cell phone and not be using it or those who’ve gone totally wireless and don’t even have a landline. Talk is local, not long distance. If you want unlimited long distance and text messaging you move up to the next tier plan at $35 a month.

As you move up the service plan food chain, features get added. These include call waiting, 3-way calling, voicemail, picture mail, Mexico text, Global text, 411 directory assistance and mobile Web. In the top two tiers you also get nationwide roaming.

What’s different about Cricket’s roaming is that it’s a package of minutes, not unlimited service like the usual talk, text and Web services. For urbanites that never venture out to the hinterlands, roaming is not something they need to worry about. But if you like road trips or live in a city surrounded by countryside, roaming is something you’ll need.

What roaming means is that your carrier doesn’t have any towers nearby. So your phone is set up to find a tower owned by another carrier that has agreed to serve your carrier’s customers. Your phone will tell you when you are roaming. If you don’t have roaming service on your plan, you’ll get no service at all. If you do have roaming you’ll be using minutes from that package, but at least you have service available from Grandma’s place over the river and through the woods.

Check the coverage maps for Cricket and you’ll see that they are focused on serving major population centers, with no service at all in states like Montana. Compare these maps to where you spend your time to decide on which, if any, Cricket service to buy.

Another thing you’ll want to do is enter your zip code to check the plan prices. When I did that, all of a sudden the higher cost packages were available for $5 a month discounts for my location. That’s a nice surprise.

You also need to declare your location to see what phones are available. Compared to other no contract cellular services, Cricket has some nice smartphones with full QWERTY keyboards, Stereo Bluetooth, high resolution cameras, music players with external dedicated controls, and streaming video capability. They also offer an aircard that provides 3G broadband to your laptop computer at a monthly fee lower than competing wireless services.

Are you a urbanite or suburbanite looking for unlimited mobile phone service at decent price with no contracts to sign? You should really take a close look at what Cricket Wireless has to offer.

Nokia E71x Smartphone Mixes Business With Pleasure

What's it going to be, business or entertainment? Is that the dilemma you're facing when trying to decide on a new cell phone? If so, you should take a look at the Nokia E71x in sleek black.

Is this a BlackBerry? No, but it looks something like one. Your eye is drawn to the large color main display measuring 2.4 inches with 240x320 pixels and able to display over 16 million colors. It has a light sensing technology to make sure it is always the appropriate brightness for the illumination you are in. The bottom half of the device is dedicated to a full QWERTY keyboard, just like a you-know-what.

But this smartphone has some other tricks up its sleeve, or case as it were. Did you expect to find WiFi access included? The E71x will indeed connect to your favorite wireless access point, WiFi hotspot, wireless router or the like. That gives you super speed when you are within range of an 802.11 WiFi signal. But fear not, the designers of this phone will keep you connected at a high rate when you move out of the hotspot footprint and into cellular coverage. This phone will handle data downloads at up to 3.6 Mbps in 3G coverage areas and 144 Kbps in the slower EDGE areas of AT&T's network.

All that communications power will keep you in touch with the home office and able to view Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint documents along with PDF and ZIP files attached to emails. Don't you hate it when you get these at the beach and have to pretend to be on your way to a client's office? Well, at least you get to pretend you're doing business under that umbrella. Just don't call anybody. They'll hear the waves crashing and figure it out.

You can sync-up with your desktop device when you get back. Do that via Bluetooth, infrared, or USB cable. Bluetooth is also available for use with those little over-the-ear headsets that you see all the execs wearing in the grocery store. Only half of them are really connected to phones. The others are props so you won't think anything of guys babbling to themselves in the soup aisle.

Well, enough about work. The pleasure side of the Nokia E71x includes a built-in music player that supports your ability to create and manage playlists. An FM streo radio is also built-in. How about streaming multimedia? You bet. That's the other use for those lightning fast download speeds. Enjoy streaming AT&T TV or Music, or your own video clips. If you don't have any, make some using the built-in 3.2 Megapixel digital camera that also works as a camcorder. Don't worry about running out of memory. You can plug-in a microSD memory card up to 8GB for additional storage.

Get Your BlackBerry 8830 Before President Obama

You may remember the disappointment that President Obama expressed at having to give up his beloved BlackBerry 8830 once he became president. During his first 100 days, he's been using a special government cell phone designed to be ultra-secure. Now there's word that our President may be getting his BlackBerry back soon, albeit with specialized software to ensure secure communications. But you can have the exciting RIM BlackBerry 8830 World Edition right now, sans special government functions. Yours will be a stock model, but it should do everything you want for business or personal use.

This device has dual network capability. In the USA, it works on the Sprint CDMA 850 and 1900 MHz network bands. Overseas, it works on the international standard GSM 900 and 1800 MHz bands. That allows it to work in over 150 countries.

Even if you never leave the U.S., you'll find that this BlackBerry has what mobile professionals want in mobile communications. It has that amazing BlackBerry "push" email that is business-secure with up to 10 accounts. You can open and view Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point files that come attached to emails. It's Pink Cell Phone Season Again

Valentine's Day is almost upon us, and with that the start of the pink cell phone season. From now until Mother's Day we witness the convergence of technology and pinkness, as mobile communications shows its feminine side. Would you like to put a little fashion flair in your hand or that of your significant other? What you need is a cell phone that is a vision in pink.

This year we're featuring the high-tech, high-touch Samsung Instinct Pink for Sprint PCS. Yes, this is normally an expensive luxury phone. But it can be yours at a huge discount when you order it with an Everything Plan or Talk/Message/Data Share Plan from Sprint PCS as your wireless service. Two women in the same family can even get TWO discounted Samsung Instinct Pinks when they order it with the appropriate family plan.

Samsung has taken the cellphone world by storm... but not BlackBerry Storm... with its tactile touchscreen technology built into advanced mobile phones like the Samsung Instinct. It's a phone. It's a music player. It's a Web browser. It's a head to head competitor to the Apple iPhone. Plus it's free and, oh, so very pink.

The high definition touch screen display measures 240 x 432 pixels and offers a QWERTY keyboard through an on-screen virtual touch keyboard. Motion sensing technology will change the orientation of the screen from portrait to landscape automatically as you rotate the phone. The pictures you take will display in stunning definition using the built-in 2.0 Megapixel digital camera that also runs as a camcorder. Make movies if you want to. The video capture is limited only by the amount of available memory, which is expandable using plug-in microSD memory cards.

The Samsung Instinct Pink may look like a fashion accessory, but this phone is built for business as well as pleasure. Sprint's EVDO cellular broadband network offers download speeds up to 3.1 Mbps. That's fast enough to enjoy Sprint TV and streaming or downloadable Sprint Music. Search the Web at broadband speeds without having to constantly hunt for a WiFi hotspot. The Internet goes where you go. A full HTML Web Browser is built-in with support for the tactile user interface experience on the Instinct's touch screen. The email client will synchronize over the air, via Bluetooth or USB cable. Text messaging features 2-way threaded view. Multimedia messaging includes both pictures and video messages.

There's more, including built-in GPS to take advantage of Sprint Navigation services, Bluetooth for standard wireless phone headsets and music streaming to compatible wireless stereo headsets, voice driven menus, speakerphone, voice memo capability and more. It's a very high tech thing of beauty.
